It's time you knew what's really going on.

Christ to his disciples:

Be ye therefore perfect,

even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Matthew 5:48

Goal: Perfection

Moses to the Israelites:

Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God.  Deuteronomy 18:13

Paul to the Corinthians:

Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect.... 1Corinthians 1:6

Human fallibility is much more culturally emphasized than our potential for perfection.  Yet Christ commanded perfection as an attainable standard.  We've often heard the minister read to us from the book of Hebrews teaching us that Abraham was a man of great faith, but rarely do we hear it mentioned that Abraham was chosen for his extraordinary blessings largely by virtue of the fact that God understood he could be trusted, not only to obey the commandments but to assiduously teach them to his children.

And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.  Genesis 17:1

For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that the Lord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.  Genesis 18:19

And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;

Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.  Genesis 26:4-5

Just something for you to ponder.....

Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ,

let us go on unto perfection.... Hebrews 6:1
